The Control Systems IT Assurance Engineer (CS-IT) is highly skilled in techniques to efficiently support, configure, and periodically change/patch Process Control Systems and their integration into the overall local network, called the Process Control Domain (PCD). They are also skilled in the configuration and maintenance network security controls that safeguard the process control layer from outsider access.

As an IT person, one cannot get closer to our clients core business than in this position. The position provides excellent and rare hands-on experience in IT infrastructure service management and delivery.

The CS-IT supports business-retained PCD IT infrastructure, that falls under accountability of Process Automation, Control & optimization (PACO) engineering discipline.

The CS-IT facilitates assurance over PCD IT Security control effectiveness. This includes providing assurance over Barrier Effectiveness reviews for Safety Critical Elements. This also includes providing assurance over activities that have been identified in order to close gaps from a recent audit over the PCD landscape.

The CS-IT achieves team goals through technical expertise in the following areas:
• end-point security and hardening of computers running Windows operating systems that directly or indirectly support the safe and reliable production of oil & gas.
• configuration of networking devices and the secure network communication of computers and other computing devices (PLCs, RTUs) that use current, legacy and proprietary networking protocols.


Main responsibilities of the position include:

  • Plan, organize, and ensure quality, day-to-day support and assurance delivered by the local PCD OLM team.
  • Execute and/or assure preventive and corrective maintenance of PCD IT infrastructure.
  • Provide assurance to drive completion on PCD audit follow-up actions and activities.
  • Ensure that the team’s Preventive/Corrective Maintenance site visits and Barrier Effectiveness Reviews to production locations are scheduled and remain up to date in SAP Blueprint.
  • Maintain working relationships with IM/IT, PACO, CSEs, work planners and other business and IT stakeholders.
  • Maintain as-built PCD IT network diagrams and publish in the business’ repository.
  • Maintain an inventory of deployed PCD IT components.
  • Provide after-hour support on an exception basis. Ensure availability monitoring of PCD IT components.
  • Special Challenges:
  • The PCD OLM team provides support for business-retained PCD IT infrastructure that is business-owned and managed within enterprise processes Produce Hydrocarbons and Maintain Facilities. The controls of these business processes apply to PCD IT, rather than IT-defined controls.

Diversity of production facilities at our client is great with large and small, onshore and offshore, mature and late-life facilities. This results in a vast and highly complex PCD IT landscape.

In many cases, execution of PCD IT Security controls is contracted out to MAC vendors who supply different production-related PCD IT systems. In these cases the North PCD OLM team provides advice and assurance while preventive maintenance takes place.
Skills & Requirements:
• The position reports to the PCD OLM, within the global PCD OLM team, within the ITSO Upstream Production SOM.
• The Assen-based team consists of the PCD OLM, a CS-IT team lead and 6 contractors.
• The position supports around 200 NAM-operated production locations.
• Travel abroad is rare and by exception.

Jouw profiel + Functie eisen

[Unique Skills & Requirements of the Posting]
• Typical Years of Experience: 4 to 7 years of IT experience.
• Minimum Education or Certification: 4-year Degree related to IT.
• Multiple years of experience in support/administration of PCD IT components.
• Multiple years of experience in Server/Desktop Infrastructure System Administration.
• Multiple years of experience in network administration and design, including firewalls, routers and switches.
• Certifications in Windows MCSA modules, and Cisco CCNA or equivalent, and cyber security industry certification such as GIAC GICSP or ISC2 CISSP.
• Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, suitable for different layers in business and IT.
• Willingness and ability to obtain onshore and offshore safety training and certifications (BOSIET/HUET).
• Willingness and ability to pay regular, short-stay visits to production locations onshore as well as offshore in the North Sea.

• Fluent in English.
